HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 vs IONIQ 6
Hyundai IONIQ 5 vs. IONIQ 6: Which EV Is Best for You?
Hyundai builds some of the top electric vehicles (EVs) in the industry, with lengthy driving ranges and feature-filled interiors. The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 are two of our finest models. While they both share similar powertrains, they are quite different in terms of body style and cabin space. The IONIQ 5 is a crossover SUV, while the IONIQ 6 is a midsize sedan. Ciocca Hyundai has both EVs at our Quakertown dealership, and we've composed the following comparison to help you decide between them.
Performance
Driving Range
If you frequently take long trips outside of Allentown, you'll want an EV with the lengthiest driving range possible. The new Hyundai IONIQ 6 sedan has a driving range of up to 361 miles when properly equipped. To accomplish that distance, you need the base SE model with the single-motor powertrain. An optional dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel drive reduces the IONIQ 6's range to 316 miles. SEL and Limited models have a maximum range of 305 miles with the single-motor powertrain and 270 miles with the dual-motor setup.
The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 with the Long Range powertrain has a maximum driving range of 303 miles in rear-wheel drive models. All-wheel drive reduces its range to 266 miles. Standard Range models can travel up to 220 miles on a full charge.
Efficiency
Efficiency is measured differently for an electric car than it is for a gas-powered vehicle. Instead of miles per gallon, they're evaluated in terms of miles per gallon equivalent, or MPGe. The rear-wheel drive IONIQ 6 SE Long Range model returns up to 140 MPGe combined city/highway mileage.
Rear-wheel drive Long Range IONIQ 5 models earn up to 132 MPGe in the city and 98 MPGe on the highway.
Charging Time
The new IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 take an equal amount of time to charge. Using a 350-kWh charger at a DC fast-charging station, both vehicles can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Acceleration
If you want to be able to merge effortlessly onto I-78 in Bethlehem, you need a vehicle that can take off quickly. All-wheel-drive Hyundai IONIQ 5 models can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in around four and a half seconds.
The dual-motor all-wheel drive Hyundai IONIQ 6 is almost as fast as the IONIQ 5. It takes just over five seconds to bolt from 0 to 60 mph.
Ride, Handling, and Maneuverability
The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 has accurate steering and strong brakes, but it doesn't feel sporty around turns. Its front-strut and multilink rear suspension keeps it calm and composed on pavement. Since the IONIQ 5 is over 8 inches shorter than the IONIQ 6, it's a bit simpler to navigate through narrow lanes in Lansdale.
The new Hyundai IONIQ 6 has a low center of gravity that gives it a planted feel in corners. Its well-weighted steering makes it a joy to drive on curvy roads in Perkasie. A well-tuned suspension keeps its ride pillowy soft.

Interior
Cargo Space

Passenger Space
Both the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Hyundai IONIQ 6 have seating for five people, but taller Allentown passengers will have more room to relax in the IONIQ 5. It has 39.1 inches of front headroom and 39.4 inches of rear legroom.
The new Hyundai IONIQ 6 has just 38.7 inches of front headroom and 39.2 inches of rear legroom. However, the IONIQ 6 has more space for front-seat passengers to stretch out their legs, with 42.3 inches of front legroom compared to 41.7 inches for the IONIQ 5.
Cabin Design and Materials
The new Hyundai IONIQ 5 has a tech-savvy interior with a digitized dashboard and tons of eco-friendly materials. Its low-slung dash leaves just enough functions demoted to its touchscreen to keep the interior design clean and the interfaces clear. Cloth upholstery comes standard in the IONIQ 5, but vegan-friendly synthetic leather seats are available.
The new Hyundai IONIQ 6 has a horizontal dash that stretches like wings to both ends, replete with winglets.
